Tap Unlock (Activate) in the app once, for free. Then WhatsApp's SMS code arrives in your chat with the Telegram bot @DegenPhoneTonBot. A Fragment +888 number can't get that code. It only logs in to Telegram.

The same number gets SMS codes from many other services, including Telegram, Revolut, Instagram, Amazon, Meta (Facebook), PayPal and crypto exchanges.

DegenPhone is also a cheap alternative to Fragment +888 numbers. The cheapest fixed-price +888 number on Fragment costs over 2,500 GRAM. You can mint a random DegenPhone number from 150 GRAM.

People you chat with on WhatsApp see the +372 number, not your personal one. You can sell the number on the DegenPhone Market at any time.

You need Telegram and a TON wallet. Open in Telegram to get your number.

Which second number for WhatsApp should you choose?

Choose a number you own, so WhatsApp's codes keep reaching you. DegenPhone does that while the NFT is in your wallet. Fragment's +888 numbers can't register WhatsApp at all. A temporary number costs less, but the site can later give it to someone else. Your next WhatsApp code then goes to that person.

How do you get a virtual number for WhatsApp and sign up with it?

Get a DegenPhone number in Telegram, tap Unlock (Activate), then sign up in WhatsApp with the +372 number. You need a TON wallet with some GRAM. Keeper (formerly Tonkeeper) and Walt (formerly Wallet in Telegram) both work.

  1. 1
Start the bot. Open @DegenPhoneTonBot in Telegram and tap START. Your codes come to this chat.
  2. 2
Connect your wallet inside Telegram. Tap Open App, then Connect Wallet. If you connect only on degenphone.xyz, codes won't reach the bot.
  3. 3
Roll, then mint. A roll is one try at a random number. Rolled numbers are always Fresh, which means nobody has activated them yet. The app holds the number for 15 minutes. Mint it in that time to create the NFT you keep, or roll again. If you buy on the DegenPhone Market instead, choose a Fresh number.
  4. 4
Tap Unlock (Activate) in My Numbers when you're ready to sign up. It's free and done once, and SMS reach the bot only after that. The number then shows as Recycled for good, and Recycled numbers usually sell for less.
  5. 5
Sign up in the WhatsApp app on your phone. Choose Estonia (+372), enter the number from My Numbers and ask for the code by SMS.
  6. 6
Enter the code. Copy it from the bot into WhatsApp. The last 15 SMS also show in My Numbers.
  7. 7
Turn on two-step verification. In WhatsApp, open Settings, then Account, then Two-step verification, and set a 6-digit PIN. A new phone then needs that PIN too.

What if your WhatsApp verification code doesn't arrive?

Codes to an activated DegenPhone number usually arrive within seconds. If WhatsApp's code is slow, check that you tapped Unlock (Activate) and connected your wallet inside Telegram.

  • Switch to Wi-Fi. Then ask for the code again in the WhatsApp app on your phone.
  • Ask for SMS, not a call. The number can't receive calls yet.
  • Give WhatsApp time. After several requests, it may make you wait a few hours for a new code.

If the code still doesn't come, follow the 5 checks for a code that isn't arriving, or ask in the DegenPhone chat.

How much does it cost to buy a WhatsApp number on DegenPhone?

You can mint a DegenPhone number from 150 GRAM, and the app shows the final price before you pay. Prices are in GRAM (formerly Toncoin), the coin of the TON network.

There is no monthly fee: service is 2 years prepaid, and Unlock (Activate) is free.

You roll first: a roll is one try at a random number, and packs add bonus rolls. Your first roll is free when you subscribe to the @degenphone channel from the app. See DegenPhone prices, rolls and packs.

What happens to your WhatsApp account if you sell the number?

After you sell or send the NFT, the new owner gets the number's SMS once they open the app in Telegram. That includes WhatsApp's codes.

Your WhatsApp account stays on the number until you change it, so a new login code for it would go to them.

Change the number before you sell. On your phone, open WhatsApp, then Settings, then Account, then Change number. WhatsApp Web and Desktop can't do this.

Questions about WhatsApp numbers

Can you use WhatsApp without a phone number?

No. WhatsApp needs a phone number to sign up. On 29 June 2026, WhatsApp started adding usernames, in stages (Smartprix). A username lets people chat with you without seeing your number, but sign-up still asks for one. It doesn't have to be your personal number. Register with a DegenPhone +372 number, and the SMS code arrives in your chat with @DegenPhoneTonBot.

Can I use a virtual number for WhatsApp?

Yes, if WhatsApp supports the number type and its SMS code reaches you. WhatsApp doesn't support VoIP (internet call), toll-free, premium-rate or UAN (Universal Access Number) numbers (WhatsApp Help Center). A DegenPhone number is a real Estonian +372 number on a mobile network, held as an NFT: a WhatsApp number without a SIM. It takes SMS only, so ask for the code by SMS. The code arrives in @DegenPhoneTonBot after Unlock (Activate).

Will WhatsApp ban a virtual number?

It can refuse some types. WhatsApp doesn't support VoIP (internet call) or toll-free numbers, and Cape (2026) says it now blocks VoIP numbers. DegenPhone numbers are real Estonian +372 numbers on a mobile network, and WhatsApp's SMS code reaches them. WhatsApp can still block any account that breaks its Terms of Service, virtual number or not.

Can you use a temp number for WhatsApp?

You can, but you don't keep it. 5sim sells WhatsApp numbers from about $0.11 a code, and says they "cannot be reused after the order has been completed" (5sim). SMSPVA rents numbers longer, but guarantees a rental for 90 days at most. When an order or rental ends, the site can give the number to someone else. A new WhatsApp code would then go to them. With DegenPhone, the number stays yours while the NFT is in your wallet.

Is there a permanent number for WhatsApp?

Not forever. You own a DegenPhone number while its NFT is in your wallet, and service is 2 years prepaid. Owning the number still matters. WhatsApp asks for a new SMS code on a new phone, and it deletes accounts unused for about 120 days (WABetaInfo). With a number you own, that code still reaches your chat with @DegenPhoneTonBot.

Someone asked for my WhatsApp code. Is it a scam?

Yes, treat it as a scam. WhatsApp says never to share your verification code, because whoever has it can take over your account (The Quint). Turn on two-step verification, so a new phone also needs your PIN. Do it on a DegenPhone number too: its SMS reach you through DegenPhone, and after a sale they go to the new owner. The DegenPhone team never messages you first, so a message from "DegenPhone support" is fake.
